This year the May
exam of National Institute for Open Schooling's cutting and tailoring
took place on May 24 2009.
Students from rural villages arrive at the Institute for the December to
May session from mid November to first week of December. As the criteria
to take part in the NIOS cutting and tailoring exam is that they must be
literate, so for the first 2 to 3 months the main concentration is on
them
becoming literate, they study other subjects like health and hygiene,
personal and community development and environment etc, all have a
literacy component built in and oriented toward the skill they will
learn.
Students of The National Institute of Open
Schooling Vocational examination are examined on 1. Written theory
exam. 2. Practical exam, 3. Maintaining a work book.
Barli is proud of its ability to bring these young village women from
illiteracy to being able to sit down and write a 1.5 hour written exam,
for most of the them the very first exam paper they have every
experienced.
When the results were announced recently the pass rate for Barli's
students for this exam was 100%.
